I’ve been playing around with one of the new generation of netbooks for the past month, the Asus 1005PE, and it’s a revelation. What makes it exciting is not the performance, although it’s certainly good enough to get most tasks done on a day to day basis, or even the cool black ultra portable design.

Acer is surely climbing up the ranks of being one of the top computer vendors in the world, and they certainly don’t do their reputation any harm with the new Aspire One AOD250 netbook that has arrived in the US. Computer and software maker Apple has been leaving its mark all over the smartphone market for the last couple of years. And rightly so having delivered what was possibly the most sorely needed function to smartphones – usability.

Now smartphone company Nokia is dipping its toes back into computers with the Nokia Booklet 3G mini-notebook. Hopefully with Nokia’s strengths they can provide the two most needed functions to netbooks, anywhere connectivity and all day battery life. So far the first reviews of the Booklet 3G are looking pretty good.

Another day, another netbook arrives on the scene. Gone are the heady days where the first Eee PC 700 rolled out with much fanfare - these days, anyone and everyone is jumping aboard the netbook bandwagon and to no surprise - sales of this particular market has been extremely encouraging to say the least, and it doesn’t look set to decline anytime soon, so why not? Gateway is another computer manufacturer who has dived into the netbook market with the LT3100 being their latest addition to their stable.

Rugged PC makers, Trimble, have just released another go-anywhere PC. The Yuma is an outdoor, high reliability portable tablet PC designed for the more rugged and outdoorsy type jobs or for people who are a little more clumsy than most. The Yuma can survive most types of punishment. It has an ingress protection rating of 67, so it’s pretty much dust and waterproof and it can handle temperatures from -30°C to 60°C.
